Lollapalooza Berlin 2017

The Lollapalooza Event, Berlin

Loolapalooza of Berlin doesn’t need any introduction! If we could sum it up in a word, that word would be ‘Breathtaking,’ but for the sake of those who need an introduction. The Lollapalooza multi-genre music event and tour, organized annually and featuring several artists and bands of alternative rock, punk rock, hip hop and heavy metal bands. The event also features several dance, comedy and craft booth performances.

The Lollapalooza was conceived and created in 1991 by Perry Farrell, as a farewell tour for his band. The event which ran until the year 1997 and was closed down and restarted in 2003. The show didn’t hold in 2004 due to low ticket sales and some other logistics but picked up in the year 2005. In 2010, the organizers decided to expand their reach outside the United States, thus touring Chile, Brazil, and Argentina in the years to come. In 2015, the first European version of the event was held in the defunct Tempelhof Airport, Berlin.

As usual, annually, the tour goes to a number of locations, providing high-quality entertainment, fun, and excitement for residents of the areas. This year’s event also doesn’t leave out Berlin. The Loolapalooza Berlin follows in the tradition of the Parent Chicago event bringing incredible art, music, people and social responsibilities to the heart of Berlin.

The first edition of September 2015 which was hosted at the beautiful Tempelhof airport was a notable success, one worthy of heaping praise on the organizers. The vast concrete landscape at the center of the city succeeded in doing exhibiting as an excellent fun and joyous ground for locals and foreigners alike looking to get away from their hectic life schedules.

With a properly balanced mouthwatering array of acts, including Muse, the Libertines, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, along with ever vibrant and culturally subversive berlin youths, the Lollapalooza satellite festival was a huge success, this was further made evident as it swooped the 2016 European Festival Award for the best new festival.

The 2016 edition that followed exceeded projections with the festival capacity almost from the initial 45,000 to a massive 70,000. Top acts and serial entertainers such as Radiohead, Kings of Leon, New Order, Major Lazer, James Blake, Paul Kalkbrenner and Roisin Murphy, all scheduled to perform. The 2016 edition was easily a mega-upgrade of the preceding event, and as the program went on, it exploded to be a whole lot more.

It would be fair to say that Radiohead’s performance was the most highly-anticipated of the show, the reason being that they had only pulled few performances around Europe as at the time – This gave the Lollapalooza a magnanimous advantage as the event was deemed a fit meeting place for all Radiohead fans.

Lollapalooza’s inter-genre music mix format surely is definitely a new and exciting addition to the German yearly festivities. This year’s event is scheduled for 9th and 10th September at the Rennbahn Hope garden.  The Kidzapalooza, a unique festival experience for the little kids, coupled with exposure and spotlight picks from the fashion world and an insight to the hustle and bustle of the everyday Berlin is part of the things that further spice up the event, meaning the little ones are not neglected in all the fun.
